Before the Breathwork Journey

When you arrive, I will welcome you into the space, offer you some water, and ask if you want to use the bathroom.

Once you are settled, we will have a chat about what is going on with you, and what you would like to focus on and work through. I will explain the process, the breathing pattern, and what to expect. Then we will set an intention for the session. This generally takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on your experience and what is happening for you.

The Start of the Breathwork Journey

When you are ready, you will lay down on a mat on the floor with cushions, bolster and blankets (I also have a table if more suitable).

I will start to talk you through some gentle and explorative breathing exercises to help you feel more connected to your body. As you do this, I will encourage you to start connecting your breath, in a way that feels comfortable and safe for you.

The Music

Music will be playing, which can feel like a cocoon of sound surrounding you. The music helps to inform and assist in the process of moving deeper into your body and the experience.

There is the option for you to select specific music or songs in your appointment booking form, if you have preferences or a favourite artist or style.

Physical Sensations & Experiences

As you continue to breath in a conscious, connected way, you may feel some physiological changes. Some things you may experience include yawning, body shakes, muscle tension & release. You can feel tingling, numbness or cramping (known as tetany) in your hands, feet or around your face. Changes in oxygen & CO2 levels, body temperature, alertness & energy levels can also occur. You may experience heart rate & blood pressure changes, as well as feelings of euphoria, relaxation or a ‘natural high’.

Altered States of Consciousness

It is also common to experience an altered perception of time and space, along with visions or dream like perception or awareness.

I always encourage my clients to explore this awareness with freedom and curiosity, and to give your rational mind permission to ‘take a break’. There is so much insight to be gained from this place.

Emotional Experiences

You may also feel emotions coming up. Often these are repressed emotions, and the idea is to breathe into them, embrace them, and let them come – feel and be with them. Sometimes this can feel scary, uncomfortable and confronting, and you may experience resistance. But it is important to remember that all of your feelings are ok. Allowing them to be expressed is a radical act of self-love. They are welcomed and held, with loving support and compassion, without judgement.

Collaborative, Supportive, Empowering

You are in the ‘driver’s seat’, and you get to decide how deep you would like to go.

I will guide you through this process with my presence, words and touch (only if that feels comfortable for you). I will never push you beyond your capacity or limits.

At any time during the session you are welcome to move, change position, speak, vocalise or stop.

Finishing Up

You may go through a few cycles. This will generally take 45 minutes to an hour, after which you will have some time to be still and integrate the process with my support.

We will finish with a debrief about your session and how you are feeling (accompanied by chocolate!). With the opportunity to discuss future sessions.

And that’s it, in a nutshell. A simple process, with potentially powerful outcomes.

After the Session

Most people leave a session feeling nurtured and empowered, with a deep sense of gratitude and connection to self. You will also likely feel more clarity, and less fear in moving forward.

It is normal to feel a bit tender after a session, and I will always check in with you via email a day or two later to see how you are going. You are also welcome to reach out to me if you need further support.

My Qualifications & Experience

I started using Transpersonal Breathwork personally in 2012 when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. I experienced many, many personal sessions between 2012 and 2015, before starting my training in February 2015.

My training spanned multiple years, with intense experiences and deep exploration, under the guidance of a highly experienced facilitator, with over 30 years experience. Both my trainer and my training are recognised by the Australian Breathwork Association.
